Forget the stiff, buttoned-up leather sofa. Damasco by Paola Navone is soft, unstructured and deliberately oversized: big rounded modules, a deep seat to sink into and raw-cut stitching that speaks of Baxter's leather craftsmanship. Configure it your way with a dormeuse, love seat and pouf. Contact us for a personalized quote.
Paola Navone is one of the freest spirits in Italian design: architect, designer and traveller, she has always mixed distant cultures, craftsmanship and a sense of humour. She has designed several pieces for Baxter, and Damasco is perhaps the one that most thoroughly breaks with the idea of the classic leather sofa. Instead of taut lines and tight volumes, you get soft, rounded, intentionally oversized shapes: a youthful, almost cheeky piece that invites you to let go.
Damasco is upholstered in leather only, and in a soft leather that molds to your body. Its signature detail is the raw-cut stitching: the edge of the hide is left visible, like a finely tailored garment, a nod to the handcraft behind every Baxter sofa. Over time the leather softens even more and takes on the character of the people who live with it.
The modules are big and generous: right- or left-arm pieces, a central module, a dormeuse and a love seat, plus a large square pouf. Line them up into a long sofa, turn a corner or gather them into an island in the middle of the room. The deep seat is made for real lounging: feet up, cushions everywhere, long conversations.
Damasco looks its best in a large, relaxed living room, perhaps with a natural-fibre rug and not much else around it, because it is the star. Before choosing a color and layout, come sit in it at our showroom: the softness of the leather and the depth of the seat really have to be felt in person.
