The Porada Aria bookcase was designed by David Dolcini and first produced in 2019. It was his second bookcase system for Porada, after Myria. The idea is easy to grasp: a few structural columns in ash, fixed to the ceiling or the wall, with shelves, cabinets and drawer units hung between them. IFDM praised its «dynamic modular design». Our reason to like it is more practical: a bookcase this large doesn't weigh on the room.
Ash, smoked glass and black metal
Columns, shelves, cabinets and drawer units are all in ash. Shelves can also be smoked glass, which lets light through and makes the whole wall look lighter. The base is matte black metal. Like every Porada piece, Aria is made in Italy by the company's own craftsmen in Cabiate, north of Milan.
How to plan your Porada Aria bookcase
Start with the number of columns and their height, then lay out open and closed space: open shelves for books, a closed cabinet for files, a drawer unit at the right height. Against a wall it works as a living room or home office bookcase. In the middle of an open-plan space it becomes a room divider you can see from both sides, which also suits an executive office. Add a desk such as the Porada Saffo in Canaletto walnut and the study is done.
