Miami Beach Sofa Baxter

Miami Beach is a sofa for long evenings with friends, when nobody sits up straight. Paola Navone designed it for Baxter, and it was presented at the Salone del Mobile 2024: a big, low seat, 132 cm deep, upholstered only in soft leather.

The backrest is not fixed. It is made of leather rollers that move at a touch: line them up along the back, push one to the side to lean on your elbow, or slide one behind your lower back. Add 80 × 80 cm leather cushions and the sofa changes shape every time you use it.

The frame is in Chilean multilayer, fir and plywood, on interwoven rubber elastic belts. The padding is polyurethane foam in different densities with an acrylic fibre layer; the seat cushions use Baxter’s AirSoff foam, also wrapped in acrylic fibre. The quilting is in the same colour as the leather and the seams are left raw-edged, a detail you notice up close. Feet in semi-gloss black stained beech.

Each roller (60 × 20 × 20 cm) has a polyurethane insert and a counterweight, so it stays where you put it.
