Pure volumes resting on the floor, like the blocks of a domestic architecture. Piero Lissoni's Extra Wall changed the way we think about modular sofas: sharp corners, strong character and endless combinations, from a small living room to a hotel lobby. Before Extra Wall there was Wall, the sofa that Living Divani describes as the first to be placed directly on the floor. In 2002 Piero Lissoni took that idea further and turned it into a fully modular system made of separate elements, free to be assembled in any order. Living Divani calls it "an epochal change and a new approach to the range of modular solutions".
Extra Wall is made of clean, squared volumes. The feet are hidden, so every element seems to rest directly on the floor, like a block in an architectural model. Backrests and armrests are separate pieces you place where you need them: along a wall, around a corner, or back to back in the middle of the room to create an island you can sit on from more than one side. It works in a small apartment as well as in a large lobby or lounge.
Seats come in depths of 68, 94, 120, 134 and 146 cm, and backrests and armrests in many lengths, up to 172 cm in leather. Elements are joined with hooks. On request every element can be made 5 to 10 cm higher, or raised by 4 cm with a spacer, for a more upright seat.
Inside, a honeycomb frame in poplar and pine rests on interwoven rubber straps, padded with polyurethane foam in different densities. There is no down here: Extra Wall keeps its lines sharp and its volumes neat, day after day. Fabric covers are fully removable with Velcro; leather versions are finished with perimeter seams that underline the geometry. Living Divani also makes an outdoor version, with a steel structure, draining foam and outdoor fabrics.
Choose Extra Wall if you love rigour and a sofa that reads like architecture. If you would like the same freedom with a softer, deeper seat, look at its younger sibling, the Living Divani Extrasoft sofa, born in 2008 as the soft version of Extra Wall. Send us your floor plan and we will draw the composition with you.
