Under a slim top, plates of bronzed metal cross without symmetry and throw a play of light and shade across the floor. Hence the name. Shade is Francesco Rota's dining table for Lema, 250 or 350 cm long (about 98 or 138 in): the centerpiece of a large dining room, made for long dinners. Got a quote elsewhere? The Lema Shade dining table was designed by Francesco Rota and launched by Lema at Salone del Mobile in Milan in 2014. It starts from the base: a sculpture of thin treated metal plates crossing each other asymmetrically. The grid they form casts light and shade, which gave the table its name. The top stays slim, almost a sheet. All the visual weight sits underneath.
The base is treated metal in a warm bronzed finish that shifts with the light in the room. The top comes in wood or in a smooth, matte Clay finish; at the 2014 launch Lema also showed it with a concrete-look top. The contrast between the open metal grid and the solid surface is what defines the table. It works with dark woods and with light tones alike.
Shade comes in two lengths, 250 cm (about 98 in) and 350 cm (about 138 in). The 250 suits a home dining room. The 350 is a statement table that also fits an executive boardroom or anchors an open-plan space. The base is gathered at the center, so guests along the sides have no legs in the way. Pair it with Lema Bea chairs by Roberto Lazzeroni, whose soft wooden lines balance the metal.
Light the table from above and from the side: that's how the Shade base casts its shadows. At our showroom in Messina, Italy, we show you top and bronze finish samples and help you choose the length for your room. We send a tailored quote fast. And if another authorized Lema dealer has quoted you for the same Shade, same size and finish, we'll match it or beat it.
