Less a sofa than a soft landscape: low, deep islands that join, drift apart and face each other across the room. Since 2008 Piero Lissoni's Extrasoft has been Living Divani's best-loved sofa, and it has never had a fixed shape. Send us your floor plan, and your quote if you have one: we'll match it or beat it.
The Living Divani Extrasoft sofa taught people to sit in the middle of the room. Piero Lissoni designed it for Living Divani in 2008, and nearly twenty years later it's still the brand's best seller. Lissoni sums up the idea in one line: "A sofa should not dictate behaviour. It should offer a field of possibilities."
The story starts in 2002 with Extra Wall, Lissoni's rigorous, architectural modular sofa. Extrasoft is its soft side: the same freedom of layout, with low, deep, welcoming seats and an outline that's allowed to be irregular. Seen from above, an Extrasoft is never a rectangle. It's a landscape.
There's no fixed model. You start from the bases, with seat depths of 68, 94, 120, 134 or 146 cm (about 27 to 57 in), and add backrests and arms, 68 to 172 cm long (about 27 to 68 in), only where you need them. Put the backrests along the center line and you get a double-sided sofa. Leave some bases open and it becomes an island with seats on three or four sides. Add a deep corner to lie down, drop a module to make room for a coffee table, move one element across the room when friends come over. The elements join with hooks, so the layout can change when your home does.
Each element can have its own cover. Fabric and leather come off completely with Velcro, and one sofa can mix two materials or several shades of one color. Living Divani also makes wooden storage modules in the Extrasoft family, which work as side tables and break the rhythm of the cushions.
Inside, a poplar and fir frame rests on interwoven rubber belts. The polyurethane foam is wrapped in washed, sterilized goose down, stitched into separate channels so it stays even over the years. Prefer a fuller, firmer feel? The down can be swapped for acrylic fiber. On request, elements can be made 5 to 10 cm higher, or raised 4 cm (about 1½ in) with a spacer under the feet. Extrasoft also comes in an outdoor version, with a painted steel frame, open-cell foam and outdoor fabrics.
Extrasoft was born as a double-sided island, made for the middle of the room. If you love it but want a classic sofa against a wall, with real backrests and arms, you'll find the same Lissoni touch in the Living Divani Neowall sofa: seats as deep as Extrasoft's, gathered on a steel frame with crisp lines. We keep them side by side in our showroom, because the difference is easiest to feel sitting down.
We've sold Extrasoft for many years, and it still surprises us. A client from Germany once sent us his layout built in Lego, with Itchy and Scratchy from The Simpsons sitting on it: "this is me and my wife," he wrote. Many clients choose fabric first and, a few years later, order just a set of leather covers to give the same sofa a new soul.
Extrasoft looks best with room around it. Leave a walkway of 80 to 90 cm (about 32 to 36 in) on every side where people sit. Send us your floor plan and we'll draw the layout with you, element by element. We send a tailored quote fast. And if another authorized Living Divani dealer has quoted you for the same Extrasoft, same layout and upholstery, we'll match it or beat it.
Who designed Extrasoft and when?
Piero Lissoni, for Living Divani, in 2008. It is the soft evolution of Extra Wall (2002) and still the brand's best-selling sofa.
Can Extrasoft be double-sided?
Yes, that is how it was born. With the backrests along the center line you sit on two sides; leave some bases open and it becomes an island with seats on three or four sides.
How does Extrasoft relate to Neowall?
Both are by Piero Lissoni. Extrasoft is the low, free island; Neowall is its sofa version, with backrests and arms on a steel frame, made to stand against a wall.
Are the covers removable?
Yes, fabric and leather come off with Velcro, and many of our clients order new covers years later to change the sofa's look.
Is there an outdoor version?
Yes, with a painted steel frame, draining padding and outdoor fabrics.
How much is the Living Divani Extrasoft sofa, and where can I buy it at the best price?
The price depends on layout and upholstery. At Mobilificio Marchese, an authorized Living Divani dealer, you get a tailored quote, and if you have an equivalent offer from another authorized dealer, we match it or beat it.
